Indigenous perspective

As a Yorta Yorta man I, together with more than 900 others, petition the King for improved conditions for aborigines, the prevention of our extinction and representation in federal parliament.

The Chief Protector of the Territory denied the passage of Cooper’s petition saying that "the vast majority of Aborigines were incapable of comprehending the tenor and purpose of the petition itself."
